Gallery 110 is a Seattle nonprofit artist collective established in 2002.

Run by our artist members, governed by a board of directors, and co-piloted by an executive director and board chair—we take pride in our history of exhibiting dynamic cohorts of member and guest artists from all backgrounds.

Our History

2000 Artist/curator George Brandt purchases a business at 110 S. Washington Street called The Prints & The Pauper and turns it into a fine art gallery called Mary Vitold Gallery.

2002 Gallery 110 is born! Brandt changes the business model from commercial gallery to a professional collective dedicated to creating opportunities for emerging and under-represented local artists.

2007-08 The collective goes through a restructuring period, reducing its membership from a total of 62 members to a carefully selected roster of 24 actively involved colleagues plus a gallery director.

2009 The gallery applies for federal tax exempt status (501 (c)(3) and obtains its own business license. The IRS grants tax exempt status in 2011.

2010 Gallery 110 relocates a few blocks away to 110 Third Avenue South in the Tashiro Kaplan building, a lively hub of nonprofit arts organizations, galleries of all kinds, and affordable artist housing.

2015 Brandt returns to the collective as a board member, and becomes Head of Exhibitions and Installation, mentoring a new generation of members.

2018 Gallery 110 creates the Emerging Artist Program, offering subsidized membership privately financed by gallery members to artists of color in King County. The inaugural Gallery 110 Emerging Artist Scholarship Competition Exhibition features seven finalists and two winners.

2020 In February the gallery celebrates its 10th Annual International Juried Show, with Amanda Donnan, Curator of the Frye Art Museum. In March, the gallery closes down for the pandemic, along with the rest of the world.

2022 The Emerging Artist Program expands, supported by a grant from the McMillen Foundation as well as grants from the City of Seattle and King County. The Scholarship Competition, juried by Elisheba Johnson of Wa Na Wari,  attracts several applicants. Subsidized memberships are offered to eight King County artists of color.

2023 The Gallery creates the EmergEAST Program, led by board member Greg Pierce, Chair of Fine Arts at Heritage University in Toppenish, WA, in order to offer exhibition opportunities to residents of rural Washington who have few options to show their work. The inaugural program competition brings three more emerging artists into the gallery’s membership. 

2024 The third scholarship competition for the Emerging Artist Program, juried by artist Hanako O’Leary, brings five new artists of color into the gallery membership.
