Group Show: From Inspiration to Manifestation

August 7-30, 2025

Gallery 110 is delighted to present From Inspiration to Manifestation, a group exhibition featuring the work and creative processes of four artists—Carol Adelman, Shruti Ghatak, Kathy Roseth, and Dorothy Anderson Wasserman. Curated by George Brandt, the exhibition invites viewers beyond the final artwork and into the intimate, often unpredictable journey of making.

Each artist presents one featured piece:

Carol Adelman, A Seat at the Table (After Marie Denise Villers)

Shruti Ghatak, Defiant

Kathy Roseth, In the Garden

Dorothy Anderson Wasserman, Self Portrait as Maria Portinari

In addition to these central works, each artist shares artifacts of their process—preliminary studies, historical source imagery, sketches, props, and personal reflections—that reveal the ideas, inspirations, and challenges that shaped their artistic journey. Whether sparked by a photograph, a historical figure, a personal narrative, or a material experiment, each piece is part of a larger story.

Wall texts written by the artists accompany the materials, offering further insight into their thought processes, shifts in direction, and the breakthroughs that led to each completed work.

Join the artists and curator on Saturday, August 9th at 2pm for an Artist Talk/Q&A.

Curator’s Statement

When we experience a work of art in a museum or an art gallery, we’re seeing a finished, realized piece. Whatever its medium or technique, we’re experiencing the artwork in a form that the artist felt represented their intention and meaning.

What we seldom consider while experiencing an artwork is how and why the artwork came into being in the first place. How did the idea for the piece originate? What sparked the process of creation? What need - internal or external - does it fulfill? And ultimately, how did the piece evolve from its inception to its final manifestation?

The intent of this exhibition, titled “From Inspiration to Manifestation,” is to let the viewer in on the process of creating a work of art. I invited four artists whose work I admire: Carol Adelman, Shruti Ghatak, Kathy Roseth, and Dorothy Anderson Wasserman.

They take us behind the curtain, illustrating and illuminating the process of how each of the four primary works chosen for this exhibition came into being.
