Shima Star: Dance with Color

Dance With Color brings together digital collage, traditional Indian flat-painting, and abstraction to explore identity, memory, and belonging. Hand-painted and digital forms, reassembled and layered, are rooted in Eastern tradition of color as a living language. The mandala's circular motif is the underlying architecture, but here it becomes a site of movement rather than stillness: color vibrates, multiplies, and performs. At the heart of the exhibition are two major series: Star People I Rise and the Lone Star Series.
Star People I Rise pays homage to the many origins that make up the United States. Star figures radiate outward like star maps, evoking collective uplift, shared cosmology, and the joy of plurality. Joy of Life consciously echoes Matisse's Dance: diverse star figures in motion, celebrating being alive together.
The Lone Star Series reclaims a symbol weighted with exclusion and hostility, and floods it with color and warmth. Where there was white space and erasure, there is now saturation. The crisp edges and geometry of Indian flat painting meet digital layering to create works that are formally rigorous and emotionally charged.
Across both series, the interplay between digital and physical process mirrors cultural transmission itself: traditions carried forward, reinterpreted, transformed. Dance With Color invites viewers into that movement. It is a space where heritage, technology, and imagination meet in vibrant, evolving harmony.
