Shruti Ghatak: Liminal Space

April 2 – May 2, 2026

Liminal Space explores the quiet thresholds where the ordinary opens into the mythic. In this exhibition, Shruti Ghatak presents small-scale figurative landscape paintings alongside terracotta relief sculptures, creating an intimate dialogue between observation, memory, and storytelling.

Ghatak’s works focus on moments of transition: a gesture of dressing, animals moving through shifting seasons, or a solitary figure set within a vast landscape. These scenes blur the boundaries between the sacred and the everyday, suggesting that mythic space is not confined to ancient texts or distant histories, but lives within the subtle rhythms of contemporary life.

Drawing from India’s rich narrative traditions—including mythology, regional folklore, and temple relief sculpture—Ghatak merges painting and sculpture to create layered, dreamlike terrains. Her work reflects on migration, displacement, and cultural hybridity, weaving personal and collective histories into visual narratives that feel both timeless and deeply present.

By transforming familiar moments into sites of wonder and reflection, Liminal Space invites viewers to pause, cross thresholds, and consider how identity, belonging, and memory unfold in the spaces in between.
